Warren’s nephew joins us this week to play Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare during the show. Gaming this week includes Diablo III, TowerFall, F1 2012, Black Tower Enigma, Heroes of the Storm, Borderlands: the Pre Sequel, Dungeons and Dragons 4e (tabletop), Retry, The Witcher 2, Brave Frontier and more!
We break out Mike Tyson’s Punchout this week after some inspiration from Mike Tyson himself. After some help from a code, the final match goes about as well as one would expect. In other gaming, Corey picked up Marvel Dice Masters: Uncanny X-Men, made by the company responsible for Quarriors. It features similar mechanics but with more straightforward scoring. He also hosted a MTG draft (Khans of Tarkir expansion) with Robbie, Mathew, Jeremy and Mary. Matt got some more Hearthstone action going having good luck with his Paladin deck. Warren was in NYC last week and fills us in on his trip to the Nintendo Store, Smash Bros (3DS), played The Silent Age and updates us on the new Archwing in Warframe. Ian has been into more euchre (analog and digital) and dusted off Guardians of Middle Earth. Sadly, it has been cut off from PSN and the game servers have been shut down.
We’ve got four in the studio this week and, in fact, there was more analog gaming than digital to discuss. Mathew learned how to play euchre pre-show, gave two talks at the Forest City Comicon and put a bit more time into Dota 2 and League of Legends. Ian has been busy readying his band’s upcoming EP and managed to play some euchre as well. Corey spent some more time in Mordor but much of his free time this week went into preparing for the MTG tournament at the Forest City Comicon. Matt has been grinding away at Hearthstone and gives us some Fitbit impressions.
We manage to finish up in less than an hour this week with awkwardness and missed visual cues abound! Corey rage quits Wizards and Warriors live, Warren plays a ton of Heroes of the Storm, new Geometry Wars coming, another Steam sale is forthcoming and the Forest City Comicon is this Sunday. Possible broken controllers, more Mordor and much more!
Mathew fills us in on some local flavour this week – Droppem from London, ON developer Analog Casual Studios. Matt blew all his Hearthstone dust on the Legendary Mage card, Archmage Antonidas. Corey plays Space Run as we record (tower defense in space) and has been into more Shadow of Mordor as well as reconstructing his Magic decks to remove cards that recently rotated out of standard format. Warren is still into Heroes of the Storm and also downloaded this month’s PlayStation Plus offerings for PS4. Ian has been into ALL THE EUCHRE while Andrew continues with Destiny and Forza Horizon 2. He also picked up NBA2K15 and Super Smash Bros for his 3DS.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has just been released and we play it live on this week’s show and discuss it in-depth. Matt has been playing more Hearthstone as well as some other games on his iPad. Andrew picked up Forza Horizon 2 on his new Xbox One and put some more time into Destiny. Mathew continued with League of Legends, Dota 2 and his son taught him how to play Pokemon on Mac.
We have returned from our annual corporate retreat, which is basically a 72-hour binge gaming weekend. Matt gets his taste of Trials Fusion and becomes the P.T. test subject. Warren fired up One Finger Death Punch, Nidhogg, League of Legends, They Bleed Pixels while Ian and Corey tried out some Spelunky multiplayer. Tabletop gaming consisted of Ascension, Eclipse and a MTG draft using some older cards. The stand out games for the weekend were Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and Sportsfriends (Super Pole Riders ftw!). Andrew also has some impressions of a Google Cardboard VR device.
There was some doubt about this week’s show after London, ON received over 65mm of rain that flooded city streets, but we made it! Bungie’s grand adventure Destiny is upon us and Mathew attempts to defend its honour from Warren, who hates any video game we like. Mathew and Warren got back into multiplayer Diablo III, Corey also talks another Steam purchase – Space Run, Warren downloaded Velocity 2X on PS4 (free this month) and Warframe has landed on Xbox One.
After last week’s 50/50 showing, we have a full house for this episode! Jeremy picked up Diablo III: Reaper of Soul Ultimate Evil Edition for the PS4 and it runs like butter. There are also some great new features. He also downloaded Monaco, September’s first free game for Xbox 360. Ian played more CounterSpy and talks about the best options for playing Euchre on Android devices. Matt plays Tecmo Super Bowl while we record but otherwise had a pretty busy week with back to school. Warren got into The Last of Us Remastered, CounterSpy and played P.T. (Silent Hills demo) with the lights on. Corey got back into a little Hearthstone and filled us in on a strange game – Five Nights at Freddy’s. Otherwise, it was all tabletop gaming at home and at the Boyle Community Centre where we held a Project Play related event this past Saturday. The big story of the week, however, is Mathew’s jaw-dropping story of how the OUYA has shot an arrow through his heart (relevant TowerFall reference btw) thanks, in large part, to its success at the PP event. He fills us in on some of the better games he sampled.
We’re running at 50% capacity this week as Corey, Warren, Raph and Jeremy are absent. Gaming-wise Mathew’s having a great time with his NES emulator and SNES to USB controller adapter. He gets into Kid Chameleon and Bad Dudes while still taking some time for perennial favourites League of Legends and Dota 2. Ian focuses on CounterSpy and Prince of Persia HD this week while Andrew plays Batman: Arkham City Harley Quinn DLC, Fez and MLB The Show. Not much to say about Matt this week except for fantasy football. Ha! In news, Liquid Squid is messing with Hearthstone, PSN etc. and the League of Legends North American finals are coming up on September 1. Join us at Poacher’s Arms in downtown London, ON for the livestream!
